Project Focus: Coastal Comfort in Oxford

Blog

This home was purchased by a family new to the Eastern Shore. With a combination of small renovations and fresh home décor, we worked to reconfigure this lovely waterfront Cape Cod for their needs. This meant making it bright, fun and happy--and most importantly, incorporating the father’s favorite color of periwinkle blue! Structurally, two downstairs bedrooms were combined to create a new master bedroom, complete with bathroom and walk-in closet.

As interior designer, Fiona guided the homeowners through the process of choosing a theme and colors to seamlessly transition throughout the entire home. Going with a blue-based palette, a coastal theme was selected. Artwork, textiles and accessories were then carefully curated to work together, provide delight and elevate the overall design.

Large framed pictures of boats, ropes and riggings. Window treatments with flowing, fluid patterns. Fun-fetti fabrics sprinkled with shapes mimicking ripples and reflections across the water. Stunning light fixtures with interesting textures and creative features to serve as focal points within each room.

Metallic accents compliment the theme by reflecting color and light much like ripples on the water's surface. Look up and see shimmering stars against a backdrop of periwinkle blue.

The owners say that everyone feels at home here. Custom turquoise upholstered beds with butterflies floating atop duvet covers.

A bit of Americana added to the walls in the form of red, white and blue baseball bats.

Velvet upholstered furniture lends calm, relaxing vibes. The addition of turquoise--reminiscent of green sea glass found at the beach--gives the spaces fun, carefree energy.

Seafoam walls pair beautifully against bright white woodwork and blue carpeting, cool like water beneath your feet. More white accessory furniture with strong lines and appendages, paying homage to stoic ship structures and square or triangular sail-type shapes.

An all-white kitchen maximizes the size of the space and highlights cabinets and trim work details. Island counter in granite and rocky grey grounds the room and provides additional dining space.

Everywhere there is a careful balance between neutral and bold colors; adding weight where necessary, while also keeping careful separation so the spaces remain big and bright. And you can’t help but love all of the natural light that comes into this house!
