Nestled on the bank of Leeds Creek, not too far from the bridge (a summer destination for young local swimmers and thrill seekers) is a client’s relaxing retreat in Tunis Mills. Here in this small yet busy community, one can really get a taste of what life is like living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The homeowner worked closely with designer Fiona Weeks to craft a sophisticated yet casual coastal vibe that flows easily from one room to the other.
An open floor plan allows for additional seating and sharing of spaces. Windows on the entire backside of the house allow for unobstructed, panoramic views of the waterfront surrounding the shores of this quaint town. The goals were to create not only an attractive and idyllic setting, but also provide comfortable quarters for family and guests when they stay on the Shore.
A pairing of blue and white was chosen for its classic, calming qualities; with ample splashes of coral providing fun, contrasting energy.
Textiles—including upholstered cushions, wallpaper and window treatments—were chosen for their exciting designs and large repeats, featuring as works of art and making a statement in every room.
Kitchen highlights include lots of counter space and contrasting white and deep navy blue cabinets. Colorful, fun subway and mosaic tile backsplash (Lunada Bay) run underneath cabinets and glow in daytime or night.

The boho-paisley patterned window treatment above kitchen sink window (by Duralee, now owned by Robert Allen) infuses coral into the setting and pairs with complimentary artwork.
Dining room features nautical patterned Thibaut wallpaper. Custom window panel features aviary scene taken from Thibaut fabric framed with coral edges.
The diverse palette of blue was explored and utilized, with both light and dark shades scattered throughout.
Bedroom and large walk-in closet brighten up with white woodwork and exclusion of navy in favor of softer, more ethereal aqua tones.

Perhaps the homeowner’s (and ours!) favorite room in the house, featuring contrasting wall with oversized sailboat print wallpaper (by Lee Jofa).

Fun fact: Wine glasses and decanter by Juliska were won by the homeowner at one of our holiday tablesetting events!
